Precise Rail Adjustment Skills for Safe Track Maintenance

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to adjust rail as part of rail maintenance and construction activities. It includes planning and preparing for the task, identifying and using the correct tools and equipment, performing rail adjustment activities, and completing documentation and clean-up procedures.

Adjusting rail is critical for ensuring track alignment, managing rail stress, and maintaining rail integrity across various rail networks. This unit supports the safe and effective performance of rail infrastructure works in accordance with workplace and regulatory requirements.

Delivery Mode

This course begins with two days of trainer-led classroom learning, where you will develop the knowledge and skills required to safely perform the roles requirements. During the classroom component, you will complete knowledge assessments to demonstrate your understanding.

Following the classroom training, you will be required to complete an in-field logbook in your workplace. This practical experience must be organised by you and completed under the supervision of a qualified workplace mentor, who will verify your competency in performing the required tasks.

Once your logbook has been completed, you will return to TICRail to undertake a final practical assessment, where one of our qualified assessors will observe your skills and confirm your competency against the requirements of the unit.

Please note that the final practical assessment is booked separately and attracts an additional assessment fee.

Assessment Information

Knowledge assessments: Written tests to evaluate participants' understanding of the course material.
In-field logbook: Participants complete tasks under the supervision of a qualified mentor, documenting their experiences and competencies in a logbook.
Practical observation assessments: Hands-on activities where participants demonstrate their skills in a controlled environment.
